Wait for it….my “AFTER” pics are ready to show you! Pop Up tent trailer remodel

I’m so freakin excited to share these pictures.  We have worked hard on our little project.  We have a busy life and because of that, we have had to put this project on hold many times.  Yes, there are still some things that we plan on changing, so stay tuned, but here are our after pictures of our Pop Up Tent trailer.

We found this 1996 Rockwood PUP on Craigslist a few months ago.  It had some water damage that needed repair.  Because of that, the owners listed it at only $500!  Yahoo!  I had been looking at PUPs for a while and I knew this was a great deal.  I made hubby drop EVERYTHING and rush down to buy it, before someone else snatched it up.  The people we bought it from were SO nice!  They showed us how to take it down and put it up.  They even helped us hitch it up to take it home.  I’ve dreamed of this for so long!  Driving home with it was surreal.

I had big plans for this little beauty.  I’ve been following www.thepopupprincess.com for a while and her website was my “go to” place for information and inspiration.  I showed pictures from her site to anyone who would let me!  Hubby worked on the damaged hatch section and I worked on Glamping it up.

Take  the tour!

Here are the before and after photos:

This is the seating area.  I recovered the cushions with a fabric that I LOVE!  The new floor was the one thing that made the most difference!

I made a video of how to cover the cushions on my YouTube channel.

We LOVE it!  We have camped in it twice so far and it’s super comfy!  These are my favorite colors.  I was going for a “spa” feeling.  I love the outdoors, very much.  But, I’m not much in to “roughing it”.  This is what I call “Glamping”.  Glamorous camping!

My hubby and I worked on this as a team.  He did all the hard parts and I got to do all the pretty parts.  He never ever said a word about it being “too girly”.  People ask me about that.  I had one guy roll his eyes at the idea.  The way I see it is this.  This trailer was my dream.  My hubby loves me and wants me to be happy.  I get to decorate my house and he supports that.  I wear girly clothes  and he LOVES that.  So, when it comes to the decor for the travel trailer, he’s cool with it.  He MAY want to buy one of his own and cover it with cammo….and I would be fine with that.  But, as for this, we are both super comfy in every way.

We are taking our camper out in a couple of weeks and I promise to post photos of it in actual use.

I have more “glamping” plans, so check back often, or better yet, subscribe for updates.  Just wait until you see my next plan for camping comfort….it will blow your mind!!

I LOVE to hear from you! Please leave a comment.  I would love to connect with you, find me on Facebook, facebook.com/stephaniefarrell123  instagram: stephaniefarrell123

2018 UPDATE!

We have so enjoyed camping in our little Glamper.  I get asked a few questions about supplies, what I bought and where I got it.  So, I’m going to try to list them here.

Floor – Vinyl Peel and Stick planks – color Chateau

Cabinets – white indoor outdoor paint from lowes, we painted with a brush and we did not remove them, we just painted them inside the camper.

Seat Cushion fabric – indoor/outdoor fabric Waverly from Walmart

Curtains – brown panels from Walmart

All bedding is from Walmart, we used a queen on the large bed and a full on the smaller bed.  Fitted sheets with a comforter over.

On top of the camper mattress is a memory foam bed topper from Walmart.  You may find that this little add on makes the camper hard to close.  So, you will have to decide if it’s worth it.

The Amazon links are my affiliate links and I do get a small credit when someone uses them, but it does not cost the customer any extra.  So, if you use them, thank you!!

Chandelier:

The doggie play pen is from Amazon:

The screen tent is also from Amazon:

I got my twinkle lights from Amazon:

Hi Stephanie, I first saw you on YouTube while on vacation in Maui talking about your pop up. You mentioned the pop up princess website so I checked it out and my brain started spinning. My wife and I bought a 2010 Flagstaff in December last year and took it out twice. I started fixing the exterior 1st as the decals were dried by sitting in the sun, so they were replaced. I had not thought about the interior until you turned me onto the pop up princess link. The painting and flooring are done. Bought the cushion material yesterday and based on your video on covering them will start next week. We live in the East Bay city of Concord and store my trailer at a storage yard with other rv’s. I just joined your mail list to receive updates.

Love it. My favorite is the chandelier, you help me not feel guilty about adding one to my camping!

    • Reply stephanie November 2, 2016 at 11:28 pm

Me too!! There are no rules for camping! 🙂

      • Reply Mary Jo October 8, 2017 at 9:11 pm

I love the chandelier but how did you hang it?

        • Reply stephanie October 8, 2017 at 11:27 pm

In the camper there is a hook in the ceiling for the door and I just hang it on that. I also like to hang it in our pop up shade tent. It’s so light, it will go anywhere. And, so cute!!

Awesome thank you I will take a look to see if that will work. Do you remember where you got the chandelier?

Hello- Great Youtube video on the cushions! The whole camper looks beautiful by the way! Question, in the video you said you had more details on sewing the cushions on your blog. Can you help me find this?

    • Reply stephanie November 29, 2016 at 4:09 am

Yes! I made 3 videos of what I did. You can see them here:

Do your curtains have the small c-clips that slide along a plastic rail. We just bought a 1996 Flagstaff and are looking for ideas on how to replace the old dingy curtains.

Hello Stephanie! Your pop up is adorable, my question is, where was the water damage & how did you go about fixing it? I have been searching camping ideas for this up coming summer. You have inspired me to search pop up’s for sure!! Thanks for the video….

It was the cover to the “hatch”, I’m not sure what to call it. It’s a storage area in the front next to the hitch. Somehow the cover to it was missing and they put plywood on it, and that plywood was water damaged, as well as come of the inside. My husband bought Marine grade plywood and made a cover (more like a cabinet door), painted it and attached it with a long hinge. I think I have photos and video that I can try to make sense of. He still needs to put the latch on it, so I hesitated to show it. For now, we just have it strapped closed and it works fine. Whatever it takes to get us on the road…I’m fine with, lol. Good luck!!

I love the fabric you used on the benches, do you have a link by any chance?

    • Reply stephanie April 26, 2017 at 10:18 pm

I tried to find it online for you….but didn’t see it. It’s Waverly indoor outdoor and I found it in 2 different Walmarts. If you have a Walmart close by, go see. They still have it stocked in mine. Good Luck, Stephanie

    Stephanie,

Thank you so muchfor sharing your pop up remodel. How did you paint the cabinets? Did your husband roll or spray the paint on the cabinetry?

My husband and I really enjoy yoyr blog and UTube channel.

    Blessed Camping!

We (translation: my hubby and son) painted the cabinets with indoor/outdoor paint from Lowes and they used brushes and small rollers. It went pretty fast. Good Luck!!

I watched your video on YouTube for sewing new covers on your cushions. I was all excited to use your method, and when I went to measure my cushions, I noticed that the seat back cushions have an arc in them. The middle of the cushion measures 19″ and the two sides measure about 16″. I am starting to think that I will need to staple material over that cushion instead of sewing. Have you encountered anything similar to that? What would you advise? Thanks!

    • Reply stephanie April 26, 2017 at 10:15 pm

Wow. That does sound somewhat complicated. I would need to see a photo. I’m sure that you can make fabric cover just about any shape. Just play with it. Good Luck. I’m happy to help if I can. Stephanie

    Hey Stephanie,
I really like what you’ve done to your pop-up! I just bought a fifth-wheeler that I plan to redecorate. You mentioned the floors made the biggest difference. Any hints or tips? I’ve never tackled anything like this before, and I’m a bit intimidated. I’ll follow you to see what’s coming up.
Thanks so much for sharing your work!

We just used the peel and stick from Lowe’s. It was super easy. My hubby did it. Go to Lowe’s and look at the different ones. We chose Stainmaster, color is Chateau. The cool thing is that you only had to buy what you needed. I’m not sure we even used a whole box.

  • Reply Jaclyn July 8, 2017 at 7:37 pm

What size sheets did you use for the beds? Fitted?

    • Reply stephanie August 21, 2017 at 8:54 pm

We have queen fitted on the large bunk and full on the smaller one. They fit great. I’m sure it helps that we have the foam topper on too.

Stephanie, We bought a Rockwood Freedom last fall. I bought “your” cushion/valance fabric! Its so pretty! I will be using your tutorials to re-do the cushions, valance and curtains so thank you!! How long did it take you to do your makeover? Did you husband make the tarp that you use in the rain? Where did you get your puppy-tent? How are your twinkle lights powered? You are such a positive person and I love your camping videos!

I’m so sorry I did not see this message! I have updated my post about the camper with some links to some of the supplies that we used. I hope I got everything! We took a few weeks working when we had time. We had to finish in time for a family trip….those last few days were a marathon!! The tarp is just a regular tarp from Lowes. We have a regular size and a large and we keep them in the hatch. They have come in handy more than once!! The puppy tent is from Amazon, here is the link: The doggie play pen is from Amazon: http://amzn.to/2ojwpEz We are SO ready to get out there. We have our first trip in just 2 weeks! It’s pouring rain right now, as soon it stops we are going to open her up and get her ready. I’m ready! Thanks for visiting my blog. If you are on facebook, come find me: facebook.com/stephaniefarrell123 There are a bunch of fun popup groups I can share with you if you haven’t found them already. Take Care, Stephanie
